Within the past 4 months 4 of Bellinda's friends got married, including her best friend Slow White, she wonders what is going to happen to her family...
Bellinda's friends are her family.
Her relationship with her biological family is fine, but her friends are her family too. They helped her through the times that she was unsure about herself as a lesbian; they taught her to be proud to be who she is and love her for who she is, which is what families could do. Her biological family live far away so sometime her friends are her support or protection from tough times.
Recently her relationship became serious with her girlfriend. And so are her friends - one moved overseas, and the other one getting married.
As marriage for herself, she can not tell if she is the marrying type, but she supports marriage equality, and she thinks anyone should be able to get married regardless of sexual orientation. For having the equal options being available is important, and she will decide if she and her girlfriend are the marrying type.
Perhaps seeing her flatmate/ best friend Slow White getting married is like having a heterosexual siblings getting married when you don't event have the option. The part of Bell, perhaps is the marrying type, or the political type, feels a bit strange about, and make the friendship strange for Bell and Slow.
Bell is not holding anything against Slow and her soon to be husband; it is their right to get married at the time in their relationship that they feel appropriate to do so. If she can somehow be part of the wedding, help out a bit here and there, would be great.
Its about people starting their families, it terms of extending their families, not cutting off from the others.
