After watching Sex and the City 2 for the 17th time, I could not help to wonder - something is not right. Yes, we know its not a movie for Oscar, but something is just a bit off.
Over a decade ago it was about how to live life as an individual, be proud regardless of marital status and try something new with men, maybe testing new dynamic in relationship, also closing the gap between singles and married bitches. It slowly exploded in different countries and grew from a cult to mega-hit. It was something for bitches to related to, try to be fab on the shoe-string or try to make an effort for friends - Bitches around the world worship them and make it part of their life. Once upon a time, it was good.
Time moved on and copycats started to arrive. When those copycats has their own copycats then new reality shows based on 3rd handed copycats starting to come in, you would make a funny facial expression; when designer brands got modified and re-released to department stores then to second rated stores then to street stalls, one may said "Oh my gosh!"; when friends only talk about what they wear or too focus on fitting into their super small outfits, "Oh my fucking gees what kind of shit is this?".
The original was buried - how many TV shows or movies used a Carrie alike voice-over? And how many semi-pro writers start writing little columns or blogs (including the one you're reading now)? How much can you take?

I guess when they were making the first SATC movie, their task was to fight off the copycats, claim back the throne and reunite all the SATC lovers; so they made it bigger, in terms of budget in precise.
Perhaps the same team who made SATC2, made their own copycat...

Many of us may had experienced a financial hiccup like when Carrie and Aidan broke up in Season 4, of course not many of us would have a divorced friend with a spare diamond ring close by, but there were other reasonable solutions suggested in the episode, which many of us might had used in similar situation.
So, may I ask, how many of us in this world would meet a Arabian shae on a movie event, invited by a movie star ex and being offered a business trip that you can bring 3 non-business-related people to use a $22000 per night hotel suite; and yet stupid enough, given being warned by her friends twice, got herself arrested, and jeopardised her business opportunity - given someone with life experiences and run a successful business in situ in Time Square New York; plus knowing it was a part business trip- does it make sense? If you take out the name Samantha, it sounds like it was stories of people from different social level/education/lifestyle/age group being stitched together instead of story being developed from 1 singular person. And for other characters, it seemed like they're repeating themselves or looking for trouble, hadn't they repeating themselves enough? They're trying to make stories out of married people and it seems like they are running out of ideas, it is true that married people can be boring, but isn't it the job of creative people to try to make it interesting?
SATC's unrealistic bits starting to reflect on the bitches' group, the friendship had been smudged into a blur that focus on what they wear, eat or drink, if you'd been reading this SATC copycat blog, and yet you read this episode up to this point, perhaps we are closer than we thought, or part of us still yearning for realistic friendship or simply, just life that is real but with a touch of fabulous-ness. What SATC2 managed to achieve was to create a fantasy for friends or sort-of-friends to get drunk together.
Anyway, we'll keep you posted when we find anything wrong after watching SATC2 for the 50th time, or the 3rd movie if they're making it. It would be fun to eventually see it advance to Senior and the City (previous episode), and perhaps to see how friendship, relationship or sex seems to work at senior's age, as long as they are making sense. Meanwhile, please hear my plea to switch off the SATC slot machine.
