What happen after a fairy tale reach "The End"? There are lot of possibilities, and since it is close to impossible to stitch the words "Happy" and "Ending" together (previous episode). Perhaps and expiratory relationship was the only way to have a dose of it (previous episode) - just a way to see how fairy tales had been giving people, particularly women, such a rush. Mulan was lucky enough and experienced one, as her overseas man's visa expired, he left Never Ever Land and left Mulan with a sweet taste in her memory.
In a way that kind of relationship in the past work as "urban fairy tales", unlike the typical hero on a horse or hung like a horse (actually that's a different type of fantasy...); these urban fairy tales are the kind of relationships that leave positive memories for cherishing purposes, and in an extend to reinforce a new type of personal fantasy: someone like this is out there.
Sugar can make people diabetic (later in their lives), and for some gene type they are exposed to higher risk because of the way their body works with sugar - perhaps materialising fantasies work the same - living an urban fairy tale that make you feel so good, with filtered memories and, for most people, unintentionally enrich the memories with fictional components. Setting the bar so high, can you survive the with real and less than perfect stories?
What will happen if you try to revisit them?
Secretly Mulan had been revisiting the memories by setting up a new fantasy: brainstorming a possibility of moving to the men's country. They had been communicating but they had been dating other people as well, after their rebounds they dated and had been living their separate lives; and when Mulan's fantasy surfaces, they needed to exchange information including people they dated/dating, as for him, he found someone special.
On the surface the original fantasy of this relationship had been ruined because the "move-on" rates are different between Mulan and him. The memory of "you will be missed" at the airport had been replaced by "You moved on when I am thinking about move towards you".
Like eating spoonful after spoonful of sugar, Mulan realised she piled one fantasy over another, and unfortunately, in an extend destroyed the original sweet taste that she enjoyed before.
But Mulan is a big girl, she can handle it. She know she wished him well and happy for the future when she sent him to the airport. There's no need to blame him, his live belongs to where he lives; there's no need to blame her, she was just following her feelings; there's no need to blame their relationship, it ended in circumstances that none of them have control of...
A few months on. Mulan and him both moved on and became friends. She will still plan to visit his country and experience the culture and perhaps, have some fun with men she's going to meet there; and when him and his date is ready, they can all go out for a coffee.
Speaking of date, did we mention Mulan is now dating a virgin?
