On the final day of the financial year 2009/10, news about Sex and the City 2 would be the last of its franchise: "TWELVE years, 94 episodes and two blockbuster movies later, the ladies of Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have decided to hang up their Monolos and call it an end...." In 2000 HBO advertised SATC's 3rd season as its "Encore Season", but it’s not until the 2010 movie that had a sense of finale. Reporters said it was a flop, but 37 millions and worldwide recognition sound pretty good to me.
The news can be an allegory, even until reports "Stars and Producers confirmed ending the franchise" come out, they can still change their mind and come back for a 3rd movie. In this day and age, nothing is definite.
12 years ago we were living in a, perhaps slightly more conservative society where the main "progress" of live is to get married, have kids, living in the suburb, and want everything that everyone else’s have. SATC was ground-breaking for the first few seasons, we noticed the modesty of fashion and borderline budget consciousness no longer present in the 2010 movie - The theme had changed into a friendship/fantasy movie, and the good news is, the franchise definitely helped people to see the importance of friendship regardless of relationship status.
As Gen-Z kicks in, teenagers start not knowing what SATC was or too young when it first comes on air; and the actress's appearance starting to agree with gravity really quickly. Would it be a sign to stop?
In real life, stop is not an option but changes can be made, SATC changed us, brought the 5 friends together whom ultimately became Fairy Tell Bitches. And keep reminding us not to forsaken our friends after getting into a relationship - not a bad effect after all.
Perhaps until the last person decided to stop playing SATC on her/his home entertainment system, it would not be the end of SATC. Fairy Tell Bitches, obviously inspired and sometime ripped off from the series, can see themselves carrie-ing their mini-torch like every other female or gay fan around the world. Obviously we can not afford to shower in all the designers brand and luxury without a working very hard, but we can find our way to a satisfying lifestyle. The friend who inspired the character John-asmine is truly moving overseas, but like SATC taught us, friendship is important, I am confident that this friendship would change instead of ending. Perhaps I am living in La-la-land, but I would la-la the way until the very last day that I can la-la.
